LECTIO DIVINA with His Grace, Archbishop Thomas Collins
"I would like in particular to recall and recommend the ancient tradition of Lectio Divina: the diligent reading of Sacred Scripture accompanied by prayer brings about thatintimate dialogue in which the person reading hears God who is speaking, and in praying, responds to him with trusting openness of heart (cf. Dei Verbum, n.25) If it is effectively promoted, this practice will bring to the Church – I am convinced of it – a new spiritual springtime." - Pope Benedict XVI , September 2005
On Sunday evenings each month, from September to June, all are welcome to join Archbishop Collins, who will lead Lectio Divina at St. Michael's Cathedral. It begins with Vespers (Evening Prayer) at 7:00 p.m., followed by Lectio Divina at 7:30 p.m.
DAILY MASS
The Mass consists of three important and necessary parts, the Offertory, Consecration and Communion. A Catholic is obliged to attend Holy Mass each Sunday and Holyday of Obligation. To fulfill this obligation he must be present during the parts of the Mass named above.
The Mass consists of three important and necessary parts, the Offertory, Consecration and Communion.
The word "Mass" is from the Latin "missa", or missio, meaning "dismissal", from the fact that its two parts, that for the Catechumens (converts under instruction of the Faith in order to be baptized) and that for the faithful, were formerly terminated with a striking ceremony of dismissal. The sending away of the people at the end of the sacred function survives in the "Ite, missa est," i.e. "Go, the Mass is ended."
The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the unbloody sacrifice of the Body and Blood of Christ. It is substantially the same as the bloody sacrifice of the cross, and was instituted by Our Lord Jesus Christ at the Last Supper on the first Holy Thursday evening, just as He was entering upon His Passion. Then it was that He changed bread and wineinto His most holy Body and Blood, and offered them in sacrifice, giving at the same time to His Apostles and their successors the power and the command to continue this sacred action in commemoration of Him to the end of time.

THE ROSARY
The rosary probably began as a practice by the laity to imitate the monastic Divine Office (Breviary or Liturgy of the Hours), during the course of which the monks daily prayed the 150 Psalms. The laity, many of whom could not read, substituted 50, or even 150, Ave Marias (Hail Marys) for the Psalms. This prayer, at least the first half of it so directly biblically, seems to date from as early as the 2nd century, as ancient graffiti at Christian sites has suggested. Sometimes a cord with knots on it was used to keep an accurate count of the Aves.

ONLINE SCRIPTURE & BIBLE SEARCH
The Catholic Bible (or Roman Catholic Bible) includes books of the Old Testament and the New Testament. Several of the books that the Catholic Church includes in her Bible are not included in the Protestant bibles. For Catholic bible study, one that helps us to understand the specific richness and history of our Catholic religion, there are several Roman Catholic bible translations from which to choose. One of the most popular is the New American Bible (NAB) translation. Others, from earlier periods in bible translation history, include the Revised Standard Version - Catholic Edition (RSV-CE), the Douay-Rheims (the earliest translation from the original Latin), and the Navarre Bible. There are also Catholic youth bibles, Catholic family bibles (which are traditional wedding gifts), Catholic children's bibles and Catholic bible software.
DIVINE MERCY Devotions
The message of the Divine Mercy is simple. It is that God loves us - all of us. And, he wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy.
